RCA Victor 100 Años
In 2001, BMG introduced this new series to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Victor company, although not of tango recording, which did not begin until a little later.
It contains not only tango recordings but also folclore (Argentine folk) and Argentine rock before departing from Argentine shores altogether with a couple of jazz titles and finally, to cap it all, an album of the late great Elvis Presley. All but the most obsessive European Elvis fans will not be looking to import an Argentine collection of his songs so we present to you only the tango titles.
The selections are, for once, not merely a recycling of those on FM Tango. They have been thought through very intelligently. All of the discs have been transferred with great care and many are the best available for the artist.
BMG stopped supporting this series in 2006. The D'Agostino-Vargas cd was deleted in 2006 and the Orquesta Típica Victor in 2007. In September 2008, the Di Sarli cd - our best selling tango CD - was deleted by BMG. Public demand led to it being reinstated, but it was finally deleted in around 2014.

Juan D'ArienzoBMG 86567A selection of stereo recordings from the Tango for Export albums. Great stuff, but not his very best work, and there are some glaring omissions: Pura Trampa, Papas Calientes and most notably Este Es El Rey have all been ignored in favour of stereo versions of his early hits. A disappointment. Track List

Orchestra Típica VictorBMG 86569This was a great disc with some real rarities such as Adiós Buenos Aires. It's deleted, but try EU 17014 instead. Note: the delightful version of Rodriguez Peña is not by the Típica Victor, but by the orchestra of Adolfo Carabelli. Track List

Carlos Di SarliBMG 87490
This disc contains some rarities - where else can you hear Milonguero Viejo? - but the rarest of them is a real surprise, even for BMG, because Track 9, Fumando Espero, is not quite what it says it is. The cover declares the version sung by Argentino Ledesma which was a big hit at the time. But Di Sarli had just snatched Ledesma from the orchestra of Héctor Varela. Columbia sued and Di Sarli recorded a back-up vocal with Roberto Florio, just in case. In the event Columbia and RCA settled out of court and the version with Florio was never released. For this release BMG have put out the version with Roberto Florio. It must have been an accident because it has not been joined with the instrumental introduction and runs at just under two minutes. If you want to hear the full version with Ledesma you must buy EU16028. Perfect for beginners and experienced dancers alike, this is the best selling tango CD in the UK. - our grateful thanks to Jorge Finkielman for explaining the mystery of Fumando Espero Want more?
